Emo Hairstyles 2012

The hype around the emo subculture, whether with clothing or hairstyles gained notoriety towards the end of the 90s by the musician Justin Pearson, the former front man of the band called the Swing Kids.

There was no previous dress code common to emos because they usually surrounded themselves within the musical scenes of punk and hardcore, from which influences fashion and the way they styled their hair. The distinct style of fashion during this time was often referred to as Spock Rock, as it reminded people of the popular Vulcan character from Star Trek portrayed by the actor, Leonard Nimoy. Emo hairstyles were then worn without parting, with bangs on the forehead. Nowadays, emo hairstyles are worn with an asymmetric parting, which partly or completely covers the left or right eye. Still, emo kids borrow parts of their fashion style from other youth subcultures, such as the gothic or punk-pop scene.

The upcoming emo hairstyles for both emo guys and emo girls will likely not differ much from previous years. And why should they? Emo is after all a lifestyle. An emo sticks to onces emotions and is often more open than many other people. The perfect emo hairstyle is an expression of ones true self and conveys an important message: “I am emo!”
